Safari & beachTanzania safaris
Tanzania is home to the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, and to the Great Migration for most of the year.

Large parks and some of Africa's best known wildlife areas.
If Kenya is the classic, Tanzania is the grand scale. The Serengeti alone covers 14,750 square kilometres, bigger than Northern Ireland, and the wildebeest herd spends most of its year somewhere inside it, calving on the southern plains in January and February, then sweeping north towards the Mara River as the dry season sets in.
Then there is the Ngorongoro Crater: a 2,000-foot-deep volcanic caldera where the whole ecosystem, predators, prey and rhino, lives on one enclosed floor. There is nowhere else like it. After a morning inside it, Tanzania’s smaller parks round the trip out perfectly, with Tarangire’s elephants and baobabs and Manyara’s tree-climbing lions.
And when the safari is done there is Zanzibar: a short flight from Arusha to beaches, spice farms and Stone Town’s labyrinthine alleys. We can add it to any Tanzanian route.
Parks and areas we visit in Tanzania

Serengeti National Park
The migration’s home for most of the year, and the park where the classic open-plains safari picture was made. Cheetah, leopard and lion in numbers few parks match.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area
A 260-square-kilometre caldera floor holding lions, elephants, wildebeest and one of the few places in Tanzania where black rhino are sometimes seen. The crater walls keep much of the wildlife on the open floor.

Tarangire National Park
Known for elephant herds that gather at the river in the dry months, and for some of the largest baobab trees on the continent. Quiet, beautiful, and consistently underrated.

Lake Manyara National Park
Ground water forest, soda lake and flamingos, plus the tree-climbing lions that made the park famous. A half-day stop that pairs well with Ngorongoro.

Mount Kilimanjaro
Africa’s highest peak. The Marangu and Machame routes usually take six to seven days, and a summit attempt needs good fitness, a medical check and time to acclimatise; altitude affects everyone differently. We arrange climbs with licensed mountain operators, or a day walk from the park gate.

Zanzibar
A short flight from Arusha: white-sand beaches, spice farms, and Stone Town’s Swahili alleys. The standard add-on to any northern Tanzania safari.
When to visit Tanzania
| Season | Months | Wildlife | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calving season | Jan – Feb | Herd calves on the Serengeti’s southern plains; predators at their easiest to find | Excellent |
| Long rains | Mar – May | Lodges discount; the migration moves south and west | Low season, ask us |
| Dry season | Jun – Oct | Herd heads north; Tarangire’s elephants gather at the river | River crossings possible, never guaranteed |
| Short rains | Nov – Dec | Green landscapes and fewer visitors | Good and quiet |
