Kibale National Park safaris
The best chimpanzee tracking in East Africa, with a habituated community you walk in on after a morning in the forest. The rainforest’s birds and butterflies alone are worth the trip.

Visiting Kibale National Park
Kibale is Uganda's best place for chimpanzee trekking. The forest holds a large chimpanzee population and many other primates, including red colobus and L'Hoest's monkeys, along with excellent forest birds.
Chimpanzee trekking
Treks start in the morning with Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guides and follow habituated chimpanzee groups through the forest. Permits are limited and are paid in full at booking. A longer habituation experience, spending most of a day with a group, is available on some dates.
Around Kibale
The Bigodi wetland walk next to the park is a community run project and one of the best birding and primate walks in the area. The crater lakes near Fort Portal make a scenic base.
How to combine it
Kibale sits between Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park, so it fits neatly into a Uganda route that ends with gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
