Nyungwe National Park safaris
One of Africa’s oldest rainforests, with a canopy walk suspended 50 metres up, 13 primate species including chimps and colobus, and more than 300 bird species. A cool, green two days.

Visiting Nyungwe National Park
Nyungwe in southwest Rwanda is one of the oldest and largest montane rainforests in Africa. It is the country's best place for chimpanzee trekking and home to many other primates, including large groups of Rwenzori colobus, along with hundreds of bird species.
What to do
Chimpanzee treks set off early with Rwanda Development Board guides. The canopy walkway, a suspension bridge high above the forest, gives a rare view across the treetops. Waterfall trails and tea plantation walks complete a two or three night stay.
When to go
Nyungwe is wet all year, but the drier months, roughly June to September and December to February, make trails easier. Waterproof clothing and good boots are essential.
How to combine it
Nyungwe pairs well with Lake Kivu and with gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park for a full Rwanda primate safari.
