Gorilla trekkingBwindi Impenetrable Forest safaris
Ancient rainforest holding roughly half the world’s mountain gorillas. Trekking is a two to six hour hike with armed rangers; the encounter itself is a permitted one hour, and worth every step.

Visiting Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Bwindi in southwest Uganda protects a large share of the world's mountain gorillas, and gorilla trekking here is one of the great wildlife experiences anywhere. Small groups walk with ranger guides through steep forest to spend a set time with a habituated gorilla family.
Choosing a sector
The park has four trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. Each has its own gorilla families and lodges, and the sector you book decides where you stay, so we match permits and lodges together. Some families are reached in an hour, others take much longer over steep ground.
Permits and fitness
Permits are issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, are limited each day and sell out early for busy months, so they are paid in full at booking. Trekkers must be at least 15 years old and reasonably fit; porters can carry your bag and help on steep sections.
Read gorilla permits explained, or ask us about flying or driving to Bwindi from Entebbe or Kigali.
