LuxurySamburu & Laikipia safaris
Drier, wilder and quieter. Samburu’s riverine forests hold northern species rarely seen in Kenya’s southern parks, and Laikipia’s conservancies run some of the best community wildlife land in Africa.

Visiting Samburu & Laikipia
Samburu and Laikipia in northern Kenya offer a very different safari from the Mara: dry, dramatic landscapes, conservancies with few vehicles, and wildlife found mostly in the north, such as Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and gerenuk, known together as the Samburu special five.
Laikipia
Laikipia's private and community conservancies, including Ol Pejeta and Lewa, are leaders in rhino protection and offer walking, night drives, horse riding and camel trekking. Ol Pejeta is home to the last two northern white rhinos.
Samburu
Along the Ewaso Ng'iro river, Samburu reserve holds elephant, lion, leopard and the northern species, and the Samburu people welcome respectful cultural visits.
When to go and how long
The region is good most of the year, best in the drier months. Allow four to five nights to combine Samburu and Laikipia, by road from Nairobi or by short flights.
