Tarangire Treetops
Community wildlife area bordering Tarangire National Park
Tarangire Treetops is an Elewana lodge set in a community wildlife area that borders Tarangire National Park, a landscape of ancient baobabs, marula trees and seasonal elephant herds. The main lodge is built around a baobab thought to be a thousand years old, and the twenty treetop suites are raised among the branches, each open fronted with a large balcony looking over the bush. A swimming pool overlooks a waterhole that draws wildlife throughout the day, so you can watch animals come to drink over lunch, and sundowners are served at the Baobab Bar. Because the lodge lies outside the national park, it offers more than standard game drives: guided walking safaris on the private concession and night drives in search of nocturnal animals are both possible, alongside four-wheel drive excursions into Tarangire itself. Evenings may include a lantern-lit boma dinner, and visits to a local Maasai village can be arranged. Treetops is a memorable choice for honeymooners, couples and families wanting something different, and for photographers keen on elephants among the baobabs.
