Siwandu (formerly Selous Safari Camp)
Lake Nzerakera, central Nyerere National Park
Selous Safari Camp, now known as Siwandu, lies on the shore of Lake Nzerakera in the central part of Nyerere National Park, the area formerly known as the Selous Game Reserve. The lake is linked by waterways to the Rufiji River a few miles to the south, and this mix of lake, river and woodland makes the area one of the most varied in southern Tanzania for wildlife and birds. Accommodation is in thirteen permanent tented rooms on raised platforms, all overlooking the lake and split into two wings either side of reception, which gives a sense of privacy. There are two swimming pools to cool off in after a morning in the bush. The real joy here is variety: boat trips on the lake, guided walking safaris and four-wheel drive game drives can all be combined in one stay, along with excellent birdwatching and catch and release fishing for tigerfish and catfish. It suits returning safari travellers, couples and active guests who want water and walking as well as drives.
