Paraa Safari Lodge
Murchison Falls National Park, north bank of the Nile
Paraa Safari Lodge is perched on the northern bank of the Victoria Nile inside Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park. Set in landscaped gardens above the river, it places you close to the park’s best game viewing areas on the northern savannah, home to giraffes, elephants, buffalo, antelope and lions, while the river below teems with hippos, crocodiles and birdlife. Rooms are comfortable and safari themed, most with balconies looking over the Nile, and there are also suites and the separate Queen’s Cottage, which works well for families. The large free form swimming pool, complete with a bar in the water, overlooks the river and is a good place to relax after a morning drive. Meals are served in a spacious dining room, with barbecues and traditional dance performances on some evenings. From the lodge you can join launch cruises upstream to the foot of the falls or downstream to the Lake Albert delta, popular with birders hoping to see the shoebill. Paraa suits families, first time visitors to Uganda and anyone wanting a comfortable base with easy river access.
