Aberdare Country Club
Mweiga, Nyeri County, near Aberdare National Park
The Aberdare Country Club stands on Mweiga Hill in Nyeri County, in Kenya’s central highlands, roughly two and a half hours by road north of Nairobi. Once a colonial family home, it looks out over the plains with the Aberdare Mountains to the west and Mount Kenya to the east. The club sits within its own wildlife sanctuary of about 1,300 acres, where giraffe, zebra, eland, impala and warthog roam the grounds, so you can enjoy game viewing on foot with a guide. Accommodation is mainly in colonial-style cottages with en-suite bathrooms and fireplaces for the cool highland evenings, and families are well catered for. Facilities include a nine-hole golf course, a heated swimming pool, a spa, sauna, steam room, gym and tennis court. Horse riding, mountain biking, trout fishing and nature and bird walks are all on offer. Further afield, game drives head into Aberdare National Park and to Solio Ranch, known for its rhinos. The club is the sister property of The Ark, a well known tree lodge in the Aberdares, and the two pair well. It suits families, golfers and birders.
