Queen Elizabeth National Park safaris
Open savannah between two lakes, famous for lions that climb the fig trees, a habit seen in few places. The Kazinga Channel boat trip is one of Africa’s great wildlife hours.

Visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park
Queen Elizabeth National Park lies across the equator in western Uganda, between lakes George and Edward and below the Rwenzori Mountains. Its mix of savannah, crater lakes, forest and water makes it one of the most varied parks in East Africa.
What to see
A boat trip on the Kazinga Channel brings you close to hippo, buffalo, elephant and huge numbers of water birds. In the southern Ishasha sector, lions are sometimes found resting in fig trees. Chimpanzee walks are possible in the Kyambura Gorge.
How to combine it
Queen Elizabeth sits between Kibale and Bwindi, so it is the natural middle stop on a Uganda safari that combines chimpanzees, savannah wildlife and gorilla trekking. Driving south through Ishasha on the way to Bwindi adds a second chance of the tree climbing lions.
When to go
The park is good all year; the drier months make roads and game drives easier.
