Tarangire Sopa Lodge
North-eastern Tarangire National Park
Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies inside Tarangire National Park, in a shallow wooded valley among baobab trees and granite outcrops in the park’s north-eastern corner, roughly two hours’ drive from Arusha. Tarangire is famous for its elephants and giant baobabs, and the lodge’s position puts you right among them, with elephants often wandering around the grounds. Built in the style of an African village, the lodge has a large number of circular rooms arranged around the main building, each with a private veranda and two queen-size beds, and there are interconnecting family rooms and accessible rooms. Open terraces catch the breeze and look out over the woodland, and a big circular swimming pool with a little island is a favourite with children after a dusty game drive. Guests usually explore with their own driver-guide, and the lodge can arrange guided walks, night drives, birdwatching, hot air balloon flights and cultural excursions. Sopa is a practical, well located choice for families with children and travellers looking for good value in a less crowded park on the northern circuit.
