Serengeti Migration Camp
Grumeti River, north-central Serengeti National Park
Serengeti Migration Camp is an Elewana tented camp in a secluded part of the north-central Serengeti, set beside the Grumeti River where resident hippos wallow and animals come down to cross. The camp lies along the route of the Great Migration, and the wildebeest herds typically pass through the area from around April to July or August, and again in November and December, though the open plains hold plenty of resident game all year. There are twenty raised tents with wooden floors, fixed bathroom walls and a wraparound veranda, giving a real sense of being out in the bush while enjoying proper comfort. The main area has a swimming pool, restaurant and viewing platforms looking out over the river and plains. Activities include four-wheel drive game drives, guided walking safaris, birdwatching and hot air balloon flights over the Serengeti, and the camp also offers family activities. Its remote setting and river views make it a rewarding choice for photographers, couples and families hoping to experience the migration in a quieter corner of the park.
