Saruni Samburu
Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy, north of Samburu National Reserve
Saruni Samburu is a boutique lodge in the Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy, about seven kilometres north of Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya. Perched on a rocky outcrop, it has wide views over the Kalama landscape and the mountains beyond, and staying in a community conservancy means a more private safari with the reserve still within reach. There are just six spacious villas, each with a sitting area and a private terrace. Two infinity pools, one at the very top of the property, and a spa provide welcome places to relax in the heat. Guests can explore on vehicle safaris and guided walks, and a hide beside a waterhole offers close encounters and great photographic angles. Other experiences include birdwatching, visiting caves with Samburu rock art and guided treks up Mount Ololokwe, with scenic helicopter or biplane flights at extra cost. Children of all ages are welcome, and the Warriors Academy teaches bush skills and tracking, making Saruni especially rewarding for families. It also suits couples, photographers and active travellers who enjoy hiking.
