Ruaha River Lodge
Ruaha National Park, on the Great Ruaha River
Ruaha River Lodge, run by the Fox family’s Foxes Safari Camps, sits right on the banks of the Great Ruaha River inside Ruaha National Park, one of Tanzania’s largest and wildest reserves. The river is a lifeline for wildlife, particularly in the dry season, so elephants, buffalo and plains game regularly come down to drink within sight of the lodge, and the surrounding bush is known for its predators. Accommodation is in 24 stone chalets strung along the riverbank, each with comfortable beds, a sitting area, a writing desk, a spacious bathroom and a veranda where you can watch the river from morning coffee to sundown. Meals are served in a riverside restaurant, which keeps the sound and movement of the river close at all times. The lodge has a relaxed, unpretentious character and suits travellers who have already experienced the northern circuit and now want a remote, less crowded park in the south, as well as anyone who enjoys watching wildlife from camp between game drives.
