Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge

Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge sits high on a ridge on the southern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, at around 2,160 metres, in the Nkuringo sector. Many rooms gaze across the forest canopy to the Virunga volcanoes, one of the finest views in gorilla country. Accommodation includes cottages with verandas, forest suites and two bedroom villas that work well for families and small groups. The lodge is eco minded, using solar power and harvested rainwater, and has a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, lounge, spa and gardens, with fireplaces to keep the cool mountain evenings cosy. Gorilla trekking is the main activity, either a standard trek or the longer habituation experience, which allows around four hours with a gorilla family. Note that Nkuringo treks are among the more physically demanding in Bwindi, so a reasonable level of fitness helps. Other activities include gentle walks through farmland and forest, guided birding, canoeing on Lake Mutanda and a Batwa cultural experience. The lodge suits fit gorilla trekkers, families, photographers and travellers who enjoy mountain scenery.
