Ngorongoro Lion’s Paw Camp
Eastern rim of Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Lion’s Paw Camp, part of Karibu Camps and Lodges, is set on the eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, about ten minutes’ drive from the descent road. This position means guests are often among the first vehicles down onto the crater floor in the morning. The camp has a traditional safari character, with canvas bedrooms on raised wooden platforms joined to solid en suite bathrooms. Each room has a four poster bed with mosquito net, electric blanket and gas heater for chilly highland nights, plus a private veranda facing either the forest or the crater. Family rooms with an adjoining lounge are available. A raised deck with lounge, bar and dining room offers panoramic views over the crater, and evenings are spent around the fire pit. Besides crater game drives, guests can enjoy birding, short walks around the rim, cultural visits and excursions such as the Crater Rim Walk or a trip to Olduvai Gorge. Lion’s Paw suits travellers who want early crater access and a rustic but comfortable tented stay, including families with older children.
