Ndarakwai Camp
Ndarakwai Ranch, West Kilimanjaro
Ndarakwai Camp lies on Ndarakwai Ranch, a privately owned wildlife area of around 11,000 acres in West Kilimanjaro, with views of both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Once a cattle ranch, the land has been managed for wildlife recovery since 1994 and now forms part of a corridor used by elephants moving between Amboseli and Arusha National Park. The ranch supports around 70 mammal species and a rich variety of birds. Accommodation is in large thatched tents on raised wooden platforms, well spaced for privacy, each with an en suite bathroom and a private veranda. The main thatched building houses the dining area and bar, and evenings are spent by the fireplaces or the campfire with sundowners. Because this is private land, the camp offers experiences not possible in the national parks, including night drives and guided walking safaris, alongside day game drives in open sided vehicles, bush breakfasts and visits to Maasai villages and markets. Ndarakwai is a popular stop before or after a Kilimanjaro climb and suits walkers, birders and travellers seeking a quieter wildlife experience.
