Mutara Camp
Mutara Conservancy, Laikipia, bordering Ol Pejeta
Mutara Camp is a luxury tented camp in the Mutara Conservancy, a private wildlife area of around 20,000 acres in Laikipia near Nanyuki, west of Mount Kenya and bordering Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Through a partnership, guests have access to Ol Pejeta, known for its rhino conservation work, its Big Five wildlife and Kenya’s only chimpanzee sanctuary, as well as the chance to see the last two northern white rhinos. The camp is small, with tents offering king size beds, reading nooks, private decks and views towards Mount Kenya, and there is also a presidential suite. Facilities include an infinity pool, outdoor bathtubs, massage treatments and a restaurant on the edge of a cliff. Being in a conservancy allows a wider range of activities than many national parks: morning, evening and night game drives, bush walks with armed rangers, lion tracking, birding, mountain biking, kayaking, bush dining and hilltop sundowners. The camp suits couples and small groups seeking privacy, keen wildlife watchers and anyone wanting to combine luxury with conservation.
