Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
Slopes of Mount Sabyinyo, near the Volcanoes National Park entrance
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge sits on the slopes of Mount Sabyinyo in the Virunga volcanoes, only a short drive from the main entrance to Volcanoes National Park, where gorilla treks begin each morning. Misty forested peaks rise behind the lodge, and its gardens attract birds and monkeys. Accommodation is in detached stone and thatch cottages spread out for privacy across the grounds. Each has a small lounge with a fireplace for cool mountain evenings, an en suite bathroom, tea and coffee facilities and a veranda with views of the volcanoes. The lodge has a simple, rustic and relaxed character, built with local materials, with a cosy main lounge, a restaurant serving home style cooking, a bar and a fire pit. Local performers share traditional song and dance with guests. From here you can trek to see one of the habituated gorilla families, search for golden monkeys, hike to Dian Fossey’s grave or climb an extinct volcano. A children’s play area makes it a good option for families. The lodge suits gorilla trekkers, nature lovers and families who want comfort without formality.
