Lewa Safari Camp
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Laikipia
Lewa Safari Camp is a tented camp in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a well known private reserve of around 65,000 acres in northern Kenya that is home to both black and white rhinos and to the world’s largest population of Grevy’s zebra. It is reached by light aircraft into Lewa’s own airstrip, and the area is free of malaria, which is reassuring for families. The camp’s en suite safari tents look out over the Lewa plains, and two larger tents with two bathrooms each suit families or honeymooners. A swimming pool offers a place to cool off between outings. Because Lewa is a conservancy, the choice of activities goes well beyond standard drives: game drives by day and night in open vehicles, guided walks including full day walking safaris, horse riding and camel safaris, cultural visits and bush meals. With more than four hundred bird species recorded, birders are also well rewarded. The camp has a romantic feel that appeals to couples and honeymooners, and it also welcomes children, making it a fine choice for families on a first safari.
