Sanctuary Kusini
Remote southern Serengeti, among kopjes
Sanctuary Kusini is a permanent tented camp in a remote corner of the southern Serengeti, set in woodland among rocky outcrops known as kopjes, and it is the only permanent camp in this part of the park. Its location really comes into its own between mid December and March, when the wildebeest gather on the southern plains to give birth, drawing predators and offering some of the best predator viewing in Africa. Yet the camp is open all year, and away from the busier central areas, game drives here are private and uncrowded. Guests stay in spacious en suite tents, each with a wooden veranda looking into the bush. The main area includes a dining room, a lounge, a library and a deck overlooking the plains. Bush breakfasts, picnics and sundowners on a kopje make the most of the setting, and clear skies make stargazing memorable, with a star bed available. Guests can also join a monitoring outing with the Serengeti Cheetah Project. It suits couples, honeymooners and seasoned safari travellers who want remoteness and personal service.
