Muthu Keekorok Lodge
Inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, southern sector near Keekorok airstrip
Muthu Keekorok Lodge, established in 1962, is described as the first lodge built in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and it is well placed in the southern part of the reserve. The lodge is unfenced, so zebra, elephant and other animals can wander across the lawns, and the open plains around it are rich in game, with the migration herds passing through in season. A popular feature is the Hippo Bar, reached by a long wooden boardwalk over a permanent spring, where you can watch dozens of hippos and occasionally a crocodile with a drink in hand. The lodge has 99 en suite rooms, ranging from standard rooms and chalets to suites, each with a balcony or patio. Facilities include a swimming pool shaded by bougainvillea, the Eseriani Spa, a children’s playground and several restaurants and bars, with bush dinners also offered. Activities include morning and evening game drives, nature walks, birdwatching, Maasai village visits and hot air balloon safaris. It suits families, first-time safari travellers and anyone who enjoys a lodge with history.
