Elephant Bedroom Camp
Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu National Reserve
Elephant Bedroom Camp sits on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River inside Samburu National Reserve, in Kenya’s dry, rugged north. The camp is shaded by doum palms and other indigenous trees, and as its name suggests, elephants are regular visitors, with herds coming down to the river close to camp almost every day. It is a small luxury tented camp with spacious tents close to the riverbank. Samburu has a very different character from the southern parks. The arid landscape is home to species rarely seen elsewhere, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx, as well as lion, leopard and cheetah. Game drives explore the reserve and the river frontage, and the camp also offers guided nature walks, bush breakfasts and cultural visits to Samburu communities, where you can see traditional dancing. Elephant Bedroom Camp suits wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, couples and returning safari travellers looking to explore beyond the classic circuit. It pairs well with Laikipia, Mount Kenya or the Maasai Mara.
