Lake Nakuru Lodge
Inside Lake Nakuru National Park, south-eastern sector
Lake Nakuru Lodge stands within Lake Nakuru National Park, in the quieter south-eastern part of the park, so game drives begin almost as soon as you leave the gate of the lodge. The park is famous for its birdlife, with more than 400 recorded species, and for the flamingos that gather on the lake when water levels suit them. Zebra, giraffe and buffalo often graze close to the lodge, and the park is also a stronghold for rhino. Accommodation ranges from standard rooms styled on traditional African huts to deluxe rooms, cottages, family rooms and suites, some of them looking out over the lake. Rooms are en suite, with four-poster beds, handmade furniture and mosquito nets. Between drives, guests can cool off in the swimming pool or simply watch the plains from the grounds, and horseback outings and birding walks add variety to a stay. The lodge suits families, birdwatchers and first-time safari travellers looking for a relaxed Rift Valley stop between Nairobi and the Maasai Mara.
